Yippee-we won!!!!!

At last nights Moors and Coast Tourism Partnership Awards we won the Outstanding Customer Service Award-could have knocked us over with a feather.
We are very happy as nominations can come from any business involved in any sector of the industry.
We got a highly commended mention in the Guest Accomodation category, so came very close to a double.

More Nominations

It is that time of year again. Having missed out at the YTB White Rose Awards we are one of 3 finalists in the Deliciously Yorkshire Best Breakfast Award next week. Also we have been shortlisted for both Best Guest Accommodation and Outstanding Customer Service at the Area Tourism Partnership Awards in mid November.
It is great to get this recognition-but there is some very stiff competition which is great for the region and the area.
Ryedale really is a great place to stay!!!

Making the most of all you have

We are constantly amazed by what guests in other establishments rate as special extras worthy of comment.
So for the record we do amongst many other things-cook breakfast to order on an Aga, offer complimentary tea/coffee and cake every afternoon, provide suppers by request, arrange special room packages(champagne, strawberries, flowers, chocolates), have free Wi-Fi access and a laptop for guests use.

YTB White Rose Awards

We were at the YTB White Rose Awards Ceremony last night held at the magnificent Spa in Bridlington. For the third successive year we were Finalists in the Best Guest Accommodation category-but unfortunately we did not win. Still we are recognised consistently as being one of the best half dozen in Yorkshire and Humber which can't be bad. All the properties in the final were amamzing and really do show the quality there is in guest accommodation in the region.Have to say that we were delighted Chris and Phillipa Turner won-they have been Finalists more times than us and are a B and B rather than a guest house or restaurant with rooms.

Putting the world right

What is the Government up to? They talk about listening but then get the same experts to do a review and get the same answers which they then ignore.
I have a suggestion for Gordon et al-come and sit in our lounge ,listen to the discussion around the room as guests relax with a drink and you will have most of the sensible answers.
We get a wide range of people staying with all sorts of experience and perspectives-it is interesting how they all see the same key issues and usually sensible ways forward.
It is the silent majority expressing its view-when will somebody listen????

Reflections on a busy season

So the kids are back at school and autumn is drawing in-time to reflect on a very busy summer.
Occupancy has been slightly up on last year and we have been virtually full right through the peak summer period. Things are holding up for September and October but there are signs that the "recession" is exercising people's minds-less champagne and chocolates, less trips to Star, Greens and Appletree-so we will wait and see what the winter months bring.
Thank you to everyone who has visited 17 and to the many who have returned-we hope to see you all again using your Returners Club cards in the winter and spring.
We have some lovely comments in the Visitors Book and thanks to those who have posted reviews on TA and other sites.
We have added a few touches in recent times and will develop others through the quieter months ready for next year.
Delighted with progress of the garden and it is a great spot to relax and listen to the church bells, whistle of the train and leather on willow.
The Pride in Pickering Campaign is building momentum and is having some successes-less litter, painted railings in town, plans for public realm improvements and talks about better use of the Town centre. The whole aim of the Campaign is to make every visit to Pickering a more pleasant experience-your views on the town and any observations on improvement would be welcome.
The town has avoided flooding this year,so far, and hopefully some actions to reduce the future risk will be implemented.
In the near future we will be contacting all our e-mailables with details of Midweek Madness and Credit Crunching deals so watch your in boxes

Pickering in Bloom

A small step but great recognition for the effort Pat ,in particular, has put into creating an attractive and relaxing setting for guests to enjoy-if only we had the weather to optimise use!!!!

Start thinking about your Autumn Break

Yeh Summer has arrived(well the school holidays have started) and things are getting very busy.
So it is time to start thinking about your Autumn reservation when things have ,maybe, slowed down a little.
We do have some gaps in August but if you are thinking September and early October an early decision and reservation would be advisable.
For the record we have nothing over the War Weekend

Ryedale Festival(s) and Shows

The annual Ryedale Festival has just started and has a varied programme of music and theatre.
We have Meatloaf at Castle Howard tonight and soon to have Boyzone and Katie Melua coming up. A fortnight ago we had a superb night with Status Quo in the forest and the Zutons were apparently OK the night before.
Perhaps Ryedale is on its way to being part of the music scene?
It is also "show" time with most of the one day agricultural shows over the next 6 weeks-they are great days out with something for all the family.
Throw in the Traction Engine Rally, the Pickering Folk Festival and the NYMR events and you have a great summer whenever you come to the area.

Third Time Lucky!!!????

We are finalists in the Yorkshire Tourist Board/BBC White Rose Awards for Tourism in the category of Best Guest Accommodation.
Of course we are delighted at this recognition of the experience staying at 17 Burgate gives to our guests.
We have been open 3 years and finalists now in each of those years-great for us as it shows we are maintaining and improving standards.
We have our fingers crosssed for the results in September and would like to thank all our guests for their comments and observations which have helped us reach this level

Top Rated by AA -again

We have just had our 5 Star Highly Commended rating reconfirmed by the AA-putting once again in the top 10% of all 5 Star properties in the country. Of course we are more than pleased-the visit summary said-"This was a positive visit to a delightful house where a high standard of quality and comfort is offered to guests. The exterior and grounds are well maintained, creating a positive first impression on arrival and providing additional space for guests to relax. The attention to detail continues inside the house which is immaculately presented and well furnished. bedrooms and bathrooms are of a consistently high standard, with well dressed beds and quality accessories provided. Cleanliness is also given a high priority with high standards noted throughout" We were also delighted to reatain our breakfast award-great for us, all our fantastic suppliers and Deliciously Yorkshire.

Pride in Pickering Campaign

Pickering Town Council has launched a Pride in Pickering campaign to look at ways of making every visit an even pleasanter experience -all our guests have been to Pickering(what a stupid statement!) and we would welcome any feedback you may have to improve any aspect of the Town.

Still alive!!!

Hi-we are still here just been occupied elsewhere for a while.
We have had another round of inspections and had all our awards reconfirmed-in fact another couple of excellents crept in!!!!!
We seem to be getting even more returners -the other weekend only one couple were first timers-so thanks to everyone for your support.
The garden is looking something like finished and we have new windows on the ground floor level in the courtyard.
